Default Engine colours

What's the word on the right colour for engine accessories like pulleys, fan blades etc? Photos I'm seeing show blue pulleys which surprises me as I figured they would be semi gloss black.

paint them what ever you feel like!!!!! mine are black and the engine is chrysler/ford blue mix if i could do black engine i would have easier to keep clean. unless your doing a concours restoration i dont see what the big deal is being "oem" on everything. if i ever take the engine out i will paint it dark blue or black though. my 7 cents

My block is Cadillac gold. Valve covers/pullys are black. Looks ok. I should have done the whole thing in gold. I'm with kreuz, do what you want.

You make a good point.

I'm trying to track down some Cadillac Dark Blue in the POR-15 engine enamel to repaint my engine in place so I figured I might as well do whichever accessories are that colour at the same time. I like the look of black pulleys myself.

Totally appreciate those 7 cents too Steve.

This is the stuff I want to use:

That Cadillac Dark Blue colour is the correct stock colour, no?

I've used POR-15 on other projects and the stuff is pretty awesome. You can brush it on and end up with a job that looks like it was sprayed on.

I'd like to compare Bill Hirsch's with the POR-15 but I can't find colour charts on his site. The other thing is that he seems to be out of stock of the colour I need. I'll give them a call and see what's up.

The nice thing about POR-15 though is that you can paint over rust to some extent and it neutralizes it. That's pretty nice to have with an engine that's being painted while still in the engine compartment. It is literally as tough as nails too.

Steven do you have photos that show more of your engine compartment? In a lot of the photos I've seen people use a fairly lightish blue while the correct colour is more of a navy blue isn't it?

I've often seen the lighter blue - incorrect GM blue instead of Cadillac dark blue. I've used the POR-15 with great results and it is very damn close. On another note, I got the authenticity manual for Christmas and I've learned a HELL of a lot from it.

Concur with Steve that Bill Hirsch has the best time proven Cadillac paint and correct color blue.
